Sludge Dewatering Solutions

Integrated systems for reducing water content, improving handling efficiency, and supporting downstream treatment or disposal

In mining, paste backfill and tailings handling often require reliable solid–liquid separation and stable high-solids transport. Kuangyuan supports these projects with an end-to-end approach, covering solution design, equipment manufacturing, and on-site engineering delivery. Typical applications include paste backfill preparation, tailings dry discharge, green mine soil remediation, and wear- and corrosion-resistant handling for abrasive materials. Turnkey project support is also available when complete backfill implementation is needed.

What Is Sludge Dewatering?

Sludge dewatering removes part of the water from wet sludge through solid–liquid separation, which makes the material easier to store, move, and handle. In many cases, sludge is generated during municipal or industrial wastewater treatment, where solids are removed before treated water can be released back into the environment. After dewatering, the solids leave the system as dewatered sludge cake, which takes up less space and is easier to manage for the next step, which can be disposal, incineration, composting, further treatment, or recovery.

What We Offer

We support sludge dewatering projects with equipment that covers the main steps around solid–liquid separation. Depending on the process requirements, our sludge dewatering solution includes mixing and preparation systems, sludge dewatering presses (including multi-disc screw presses and high-pressure stack press units), plunger pumps for high-solids pumping, and storage and handling systems such as sludge silos and dry sludge bins to support transport, disposal, or further treatment.

Process Flow
  • Sludge receiving and storage
  • Mixing and/or conditioning
  • Feeding to the press (screw feeding if required)
  • High-solids transfer by plunger pump (when needed)
  • Press dewatering
  • Dewatered sludge discharge to a storage silo or dry sludge bin
Industries Served
  • Wastewater treatment plants
  • Sludge treatment centers
  • Industrial sites handling wet sludge

With a total site area of about 4,500 m², this sludge dewatering line was planned for a service area handling around 500 tons of sludge per day. The incoming sludge includes about 200 tons/day with 75%–85% moisture content and about 300 tons/day of dewatered plate-and-frame sludge with 60%–75% moisture content. Based on this daily load, the system is designed to process at least 500 tons/day, with a maximum capacity of 600 tons/day.
